Goxhill community open day

Residents get a behind-the-scenes look at our Goxhill site

In late February we welcomed members of the community along to our Goxhill site to meet the project team, take a closer look at construction machinery and enjoy a guided tour of the site. Attendees even had the opportunity to have a sneak peak of the launch shaft from which Mary (our tunnel boring machine, or TBM for short) started her journey under the River Humber.

Among our guests was Kacey Doney, a pupil from Paull Primary School, who won the competition to name our tunnel boring machine. Kacey was inspired by Mary Fergusson OBE, who was the first female fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and the name was the clear winner of our competition. Here she is (on the right) with her family and our project team in the TBM launch pit, with Mary in the background.

It was fantastic to meet members of the community and to receive really positive feedback following the open day event. We’d just like to thank everybody who attended and we hope to hold a similar event in the future.
